Car and bike show for Diabetes Victoria
The Car Show will be on Sunday, September 29th 2019, at the Wonthaggi Showgrounds Reserve
A car show at the Wonthaggi Showgrounds Reserve will help raise funds to support Diabetes Victoria and create awareness of this condition.
More than 12 car clubs have already confirmed their attendance. The Mustang G6 Club from Altona will be bringing over 50 Mustangs. The event will include Lamborghinis, and up to 30 vehicles presented by the Bass Coast Historical Automobile Club, hot rods and possibly some V8 Supercars and other race cars.
The car show is being organised by Tony and Trish Ludgate of Wonthaggi.
Tony
Tony is a motoring enthusiast, having been a racing official for 28 years, and is now the proud owner of a Mini Cooper R. "My first taste of fast cars was when I was a kid, when my parents took me and my sister to a race meeting down at Phillip Island here in Victoria to see my very first race. This was the old Phillip Island track which was longer than it is now. Back then there was a landing strip from turn one back towards the dam. I can remember this because we nearly got hit by a low flying plane. After that, and seeing and meeting Peter Brock when he was driving his XU1 Holden, I was hooked. I have been involved with motor sport since I first got involved with flag-marshalling and that was it.
"With cars I have had quite a few with a twist. My first car was a gold Holden Gemini. When we bought it, it had a 1.6L engine in it that lasted about a week. My dad at the time was an engineer and we had the idea of a bigger motor which we happened to have at the house. So we put a 283 cubic inch Chevy motor in the car,. Power to weight was good and that started everything. From there I had two Nissans 200b both with 20B rotary’s in them, then a Nissan Skyline R31, two Fords, A Audi A4, a VYSS Ute, then a V8 promo car. Now I have a Mini which I love. Yes, I have had some cars but when you love cars like we do, you know when you find the car you like the best, and I have. "
Tony got diagnosed with diabetes at the start of this year. This trigger was that he was drinking 10L of water a day when he went to the doctor and had tests. It turned out he is a diabetic with his level in the 30's (normal level should be in the 5's) so to get his level down they put him on insulin (injections). Now he is on tablets only with his level down to 5's. Diabetes Victoria has helped him out with advice.
Trish
"About 20 years ago, I had just got my licence and my family bought me my very first car, a Renault 12 Virage. I was in love with that car. Fast forward to 10 years ago when I met my husband in a sports bar. The weekend after that, he took me to my very first race meet at Sandown Raceway. I knew I was falling for him then, and all he wanted was three small words. I told him that I wanted him to give me something he had never given someone else. So he thought about it for a while, and organised a hot lap ride in the safety car. That was the best ride of my life."
